Seven days is the sweet spot for a first Finland trip from India — long enough to see Helsinki, get deep into Lapland, and give the Northern Lights the multiple nights they need. Here's a realistic day-by-day plan.

Day 1 — Arrive Helsinki

Fly from Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru via one hub (Doha, Istanbul, Dubai or a European city), roughly 13–15 hours. Settle in, walk the harbour and Senate Square, and shake off the jet lag.

Day 2 — Helsinki to Lapland

Take a short flight or the overnight sleeper train north to Rovaniemi. The night train is an experience in itself and saves a hotel night.

Day 3 — Santa Claus Village & Arctic Circle

Meet Santa, cross the Arctic Circle line and post a card home from Santa Claus Village. In the evening, your first Northern Lights hunt away from town lights.

Day 4 — Husky & reindeer safaris

A morning husky safari, an afternoon reindeer sleigh ride and time to learn about Sámi culture. Another aurora hunt after dark.

Day 5 — Snowmobiling & ice activities

Ride a snowmobile through frozen forest, try ice-fishing, and keep watching the sky each clear night — by now your odds of a great aurora show are high.

Day 6 — Glass igloo night

End the Lapland leg in a glass igloo, watching for the Northern Lights from your bed under a heated glass roof.

Day 7 — Return

Fly back via Helsinki. Most India routings depart in the evening, so you get a final morning in the snow.

Tips to make it work

  • Give the aurora 3+ nights — that's why a week beats a rushed 4-day trip.
  • Apply for the Schengen visa 4–6 weeks ahead. See our visa guide.
  • Layer up for −20°C; check if your operator lends Arctic outerwear.
