The Schengen visa is the one part of a Finland trip that makes people nervous. It doesn't need to be. Here's the process, in plain language.

1. Apply under the right category

For tourism you're applying for a short-stay (Type C) Schengen visa through Finland, submitted via VFS Global in India.

2. Core documents checklist

  • Passport valid 3+ months beyond your return, with two blank pages
  • Completed application form and Schengen-compliant photos
  • Confirmed return flights and night-by-night accommodation
  • Day-by-day travel itinerary
  • Travel insurance covering €30,000 medical
  • Bank statements (usually last 6 months) and ITR
  • Employment / business proof

3. Book the VFS appointment early

In peak season (Oct–Dec) slots fill fast. Apply 3–8 weeks before travel — not earlier than the allowed window, not dangerously late.

Common reasons for rejection

  • Weak or inconsistent financials
  • Missing confirmed accommodation for every night
  • No clear itinerary tying the trip together
  • Insufficient travel insurance cover
