A night in a glass igloo is the photo that sells the whole trip — lying in a warm bed while the Northern Lights ripple overhead. Here's the honest lowdown before you book.
Do they actually stay warm?
Yes. Modern glass igloos use heated glass and underfloor heating, so the inside stays comfortable even at −20°C outside. The domed glass is designed to resist frosting so your view stays clear.
What it costs
Glass igloos are a premium experience and priced per night accordingly — the splurge line-item of the trip. Our advice: budget one or two igloo nights for the wow factor, and cosy Arctic cabins for the rest. You get the dream shot without blowing the whole budget.
Best locations
- Saariselkä — famous for its glass igloo resorts, deep in aurora country.
- Rovaniemi — pair the igloo with Santa Claus Village.
- Levi & Ruka — igloo + ski-resort activities.
How to get the aurora shot
Book igloo nights in the darkest part of your trip, keep interior lights off, and set your phone/camera on the window ledge with a 5–10 second exposure. Clear skies matter more than a high KP number.
Most of our Finland packages include a glass-igloo night. Tell us your dates and we'll secure availability early — igloos sell out first.
