The big things — flights, visa, packages — get all the attention. But it's the small practical details that make a trip feel easy. Here's the quick rundown for Indian travellers heading to Finland.
Staying connected (SIM / eSIM)
Finland has excellent mobile coverage, even in much of Lapland. Options: an eSIM bought before you fly (Airalo and similar) is the easiest — active the moment you land. Or buy a local prepaid SIM (DNA, Elisa, Telia) at Helsinki airport. As an EU country, a Finnish SIM also works across the Schengen zone if you're combining countries. Hotels and igloo resorts have Wi-Fi, though it thins out at remote spots.
Money and cards
- Currency is the Euro (€). Carry a little cash but you'll rarely need it.
- Finland is nearly cashless — cards and contactless work everywhere, including small shops and taxis. Indian Visa/Mastercard credit cards work well; inform your bank you're travelling.
- Use a forex/travel card or a card with low foreign-transaction fees to avoid markups.
- Tipping isn't expected — service is included.
Power and gadgets
- Finland uses Type C/F sockets, 230V. Carry a universal adapter — Indian plugs don't fit.
- Cold kills batteries fast; carry a power bank and keep phones warm in an inside pocket.
Other quick tips
- Tap water is among the cleanest in the world — drink it, skip buying bottles.
- English is widely spoken; you'll have no language trouble.
- Download offline maps for remote Lapland areas.
